joanna littlefield, about the artist - procedure

Procedure

Initially, I meet with the client to become acquainted with the subject and discuss the clients vision of their artwork, including location, clothing, props, size of the painting and complexity. Upon agreement, a non-refundable one-third deposit is required.

At the next meeting, I hold a photographic session which lasts from one to two hours to gather reference material for the oil portrait. The photographs are then reviewed by both the artist and client to select an image on which to base the portrait that will best reflect the personality of the subject and make the most artistically pleasing finished artwork.

At half completion, the client may view the progress of the portrait, either in person, if proximity permits or by photographic print or email. At this time an additional one-third payment is made. The balance of payment is due upon delivery of the completed painting and the satisfaction of the client. Completion times vary according to the size and complexity of the painting and schedule of the artist. A date will be discussed before the painting begins.
